I will take you step by step through my process of taking an old cardboard candy box or cigar box, deconstructing them, building up the layers to create texture and depth, reconstructing them and finally embellishing the finished boxes into an expressive, meaningful and intimate piece of work. I will teach you how to incorporate personal symbolism, color and relevant text during the reconstruction and embellishing steps by mixing media and “thinking outside the box.” This is a four hour class that is designed to have you leaving with a finished keepsake box in addition to a deeper understanding of who you are.
Do I have to have any experience with art before taking this workshop?
There is no experience necessary before embarking on this particular journey, however it could only benefit you to have some kind of creative workshop under your belt. This class will introduce my own technique of deconstructing something only to reconstruct it into a resurrected piece of work.
What kind of material will i need to bring to the workshop?
I will provide everything needed for you to get started including the boxes. However, I do encourage you to feel free to bring different “found objects” or pictures or words that may hold special meaning to you or are symbolic of something larger.
Will I leave with a finished keepsake box?
The chances are unlikely that your box will be completely finished. You will however have the foundation to continue embellishing on your own plus the skills to apply what you have learned to other boxes or personal art journals.
