This is a mixed media painting class using the human figure. For centuries the human figure has been used in all forms of art; from expressionism, to realism to abstract. One of the most difficult of all themes in art to accomplish, the figure offers an infinite number of possibilites in artistic expression. In this class we will explore different layering techniques in combination with color choice and the use of simple lines and curves. The class will learn to create depth and imagery through the varied textures built up or carved into the canvas. We will then integrate those different textures with the colors and line segments to create a finished work. The level of abstraction will depend entirely on the individual and their personal perspective.
This class is designed for those individuals seeking a more structured focused painting class. I will be creating along with the class as we go step by step through my process from building up the texture and layering colors to pulling out the image. There is no prior painting experience needed or required before taking this class, however any one with prior painting experience will certainly be able to build on skills they have already acquired. This is a six hour class designed to be done in either two 3 hour sessions or one 6 hour session.
